Tulisielu School is a discipleship school for young adults aged approximately 18–30+.
The school consists of a 12-week lecture phase, which includes church and event visits, a three-week outreach (mission trip), and a final week of conclusion. The next Tulisielu School will be held at the Ark facilities of the Järvenpää Free Church from September 1 to December 18, 2025.
Teaching is primarily in Finnish, with possible guest teachers giving lectures in English.
The school is organized by Suomen Vapaakirkon Nuoret ry (the Youth Department of the Finnish Free Church) and carried out in cooperation with Christians from different church backgrounds.
Lecture Phases
-
During this phase, we focus on how our inner being is transformed, healed, and ignited in the presence of Jesus.
We learn to spend time with Him, to listen to God’s voice, to build fellowship within the group, and to experience the love of God the Father. -
During this phase, we dive deeper into the Bible as a whole and tackle some of the tough questions.
We learn principles of interpreting Scripture and discover how God’s Word strengthens and builds our faith. -
During this phase, we get to know the Holy Spirit and His work in the life of a believer and within the church.
We also have the opportunity to serve in local churches and to practice using spiritual gifts. -
During this phase, we focus on biblical leadership and deepen our understanding of personal calling.
Students are challenged to prepare and deliver a spiritual message, growing in confidence and clarity in sharing what God has placed on their hearts.

After the lecture phase, students go on three-week outreach trips led by team leaders to mission fields and churches.
Over the course of thirteen Tulisielu Schools, we have traveled to destinations such as Finland, Sweden, Spain, Morocco, France, Greece, Cyprus, the United States, Mallorca, Thailand, and Israel.
Information about the outreach destinations for autumn 2025 will be announced later on our Instagram.
Do you want to get to know Jesus?
Do you dream of seeing Jesus move in your church?
Do you want to grow in spiritual leadership?
Are you longing for close, meaningful relationships?
Do you want to connect with others who are passionate about God’s kingdom?
If you answered “yes” to any of these, Tulisielu School might be just for you.
Tulisielu School is for anyone—whether you have recently come to faith or have known Jesus your whole life. The school’s main goal is to give Jesus room to work in hearts, so students with very different backgrounds are welcome.
The curriculum is designed to equip students for spiritual leadership and responsibility within the church (for example, leading worship, or leading a small group or team). Even if you are not particularly interested in leadership, these skills are valuable in everyday life, studies, and relationships.
At Tulisielu School, leadership practice is built on a foundation of self-awareness and biblical understanding. Once this foundation is in place, students can develop and use their spiritual gifts.
During the school, you will grow in leadership skills, reflect on your life story, carve out personal time with God, and discover your calling and spiritual gifts more deeply. You will also strengthen your theological foundation, experience the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, and be ignited for service in the church on a new level. At Tulisielu School, you will live in a community that challenges you to grow while loving you exactly as you are.
In addition to spiritual growth, the school fosters lifelong friendships and collaboration, and there’s plenty of fun along the way. You will have the chance to test your limits and gifts in practice during the outreach trip, which will challenge and inspire you—and may even open doors for fulfilling your calling in the future.
Our slogan is “Ignite and Inspire”—we long to be ignited in Jesus more than ever before and to inspire others to do the same.
MORE INFORMATION
-
Participation in the residential community is highly recommended for the full Tulisielu School experience. However, if you prefer to attend the school remotely, that is also possible.
Tulisielu School takes place at the Ark facilities of Järvenpää Free Church, conveniently located with good transport connections. Classes run every weekday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and the school is easily accessible by train along the main Helsinki–Tampere line or from nearby towns.
There are plenty of reasonably priced apartments suitable for shared living near the school. Our housing office (koulu@tulisielu.com) can provide tips on furnished rentals and potential roommates. Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. Additional information about available housing can be found at, for example, www.mestariasunnot.fi, www.lumo.fi, or www.vuokraovi.com.

In addition to the application, you will need two references—letters of recommendation from two members of your church staff or other spiritual leaders (for example, a mentor or small group leader). It is important that your referees are people who truly know you.
References cannot be requested from parents or siblings, even if they are involved in spiritual leadership.
If you have difficulty finding referees who meet these criteria, please contact our office at koulu@tulisielu.com, and we will guide you on the next steps.

The cost of the Tulisielu School outreach trip ranges from €500 to €2,000, depending on the destination. The first installment of €500 will be invoiced together with the lecture phase before the school begins. The remaining balance for the outreach trip will be invoiced during the course.
Outreach teams are assigned early in the school, taking students’ preferences and financial situations into account.

Tulisielu School is aimed at young adults aged 18–30+, so applicants over 30 are more than welcome. Applicants over 30 should personally consider how they feel about relating to and sharing life with younger students, for example in small groups. In previous schools, we have had students as old as 35, and they have thoroughly enjoyed the Tulisielu experience—so we encourage you to apply with confidence.
-
As a general rule, we recommend that your time at Tulisielu School be dedicated entirely to the course. The school is intensive in nature, and fully committing your time often helps you get the most out of the experience.
However, traveling during the school period is possible. It’s important to inform us as early as possible so that we can take it into account when planning the schedule and communicate to you what will happen at school during your absence.
If you already know at the time of application that you will need to travel during the course, please contact our office at koulu@tulisielu.com.

The school and instruction are conducted mainly in English during the international school.
When international teachers visit, we will conduct a course-specific survey to assess the need for interpretation, but we cannot guarantee that interpretation will be provided. -
Tulisielu School mornings begin with worship at 9:00 AM, followed by a teaching session.
In the afternoons, we dive deeper into the day’s theme with the guidance of the teachers, share personal reflections in small groups, serve the Järvenpää community, and work in outreach teams. The Tulisielu School leaders guide the group’s growth process in passionate pastoral sessions. Time is also set aside in the schedule for fun and building community. The school day ends at 3:30 PM, after which students have the opportunity to hang out together in the Tulisielu facilities.Thursday evenings are reserved for shared activities or service, while other evenings are free. During the lecture phases, we participate together in ArkkiSunday, the weekly worship service of Järvenpää Free Church. One teaching phase lasts three weeks, after which students have a free weekend. The school week ends on Thursday evening and resumes on Tuesday.

Tulisielu School is an all-inclusive program that covers tuition, weekday lunches, mentoring, study trips during the lecture phase, and textbooks. The outreach trip (aktio) is invoiced separately.
The tuition for the lecture phase must be paid by the due date, which is just before the school begins. Until that date, you can pay according to your own schedule using the same invoice, or you may pay the full amount immediately upon receiving the invoice. If the tuition payment is not received in the Finnish Free Church Youth account within a week after the due date, the student’s enrollment will be suspended.
